Double Chin Dissolver
A double chin dissolver in medical aesthetics typically refers to a non-surgical injectable treatment designed to reduce submental fat, commonly known as a double chin. One popular injectable for this purpose is deoxycholic acid, which is used to break down and absorb fat cells in the treated area. Administered through a series of injections, the dissolver works by disrupting the fat cell membrane, leading to their breakdown and subsequent removal from the body. This minimally invasive procedure is aimed at contouring the jawline and improving the profile without the need for surgery. Results are gradual, with the dissolving effects becoming noticeable over a series of treatments, providing a non-surgical option for individuals seeking to address the appearance of a double chin in medical aesthetics.
Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule that breaks down fat cell membranes. Once broken, the fat cell contents are easily digested by the body, resulting in permanently destroyed fat cells. After injecting deoxycholic acid, your fat cells beneath the jaw will begin to break down, leading to a reduced double chin. This helps restore a sharp jaw line and refine your facial appearance! Deoxycholic acid is a safe and effective method to improve facial contour while avoiding surgery. However, please note that most patients do experience moderate discomfort after treatment.
Results are indefinite as long as post-treatment guidelines are followed. Deoxycholic acid destroys fat cells, however with improper diet new cells can grow. Targeted fat cells are destroyed permanently. To ensure proper metabolism of fat cells we require no excessively fatty/greasy foods or alcohol intake for 2 weeks post procedure. Deoxycholic acid will destroy fat cells, but with poor health new cells can grow to replace them. Weight gain post treatment will also reverse or mask results. Follow a healthy diet plan, and exercise to maintain results.
Every patient requires a consultation to determine if deoxycholic acid is an option.
But if you suffer from double chin, and unwanted fat in the lower jaw region then deoxycholic acid injections may be a great non-surgical option. Even individuals that eat right and exercise hard may still find great difficulty in losing stubborn fat in this area of the body. Deoxycholic acid may not be an option if you have an active infection in the submental (beneath jaw) region. Deoxycholic acid is also not an option for pregnant or breastfeeding women.
In terms of the recovery process, most patients return to regular activities immediately post procedure. You should expect swelling, tenderness, lumpiness, and bruising to the injection site for up to 4 weeks. Full results will take up to 4-8 weeks as your body needs time to process and metabolize the broken down fat cells.
Please note that pregnant or breastfeeeding women cannot get deoxycholic acid treatment. Patients with severe medical conditions of the kidney and liver are also excluded from treatment. Patients with excessive skin and muscle laxity are not good candidates.
The price depends on the severity of your submental fullness (double chin). Deoxycholic acid injections are a medical procedure, and treatment response varies. No guarantees can be made on the success of the procedure, and no refunds will be processed for “lack of results”.
If you are not a good candidate for deoxycholic acid treatments, you may need to consider surgical procedures, diet and exercise.
Complementary treatments that may be recommended would be Dysport®, dermal fillers, microneedling, and facials.
